Benidorm Tourism Board Denies Theft Allegations

Must read

Tourism authorities in Benidorm have strongly refuted allegations of theft targeting vacationers. Video clips warning British tourists about money disappearing from hotel room safes have been circulating online.

Benidorm, known for its vibrant party scene and towering skyscrapers, is a popular seaside destination on Spain’s eastern coast in the Costa Blanca region of Valencia. In 2023, nearly one million British visitors traveled to Benidorm for sun and sea, making them the second-largest group after Spanish tourists.

Recent concerns have been raised about the security of cash in hotel safes. A TikTok personality, Frank the Stag Man, advised travelers to be cautious, emphasizing the importance of monitoring their money and reporting any issues to hotel staff or authorities.

Despite these warnings, the Benidorm tourist board has issued a collective statement denying any recent theft incidents and affirming the safety of the resort for British visitors. Specific safety guidance has also been provided.

Responding to inquiries from the Mirror, a Visit Benidorm spokesperson clarified the protocol for handling theft reports in hotel safes, noting that no such incidents had been reported to the Benidorm City Council. The Secretary General of Hosbec, Mayte García Córcoles, stressed that hotels prioritize customer safety and take prompt action in case of security concerns.

It is essential for tourists to follow best practices regarding their belongings, including using the safe provided in their accommodations. Mayte highlighted advancements in hotel security measures like video surveillance and secure payment systems, urging travelers to choose establishments that comply with tourism regulations.

The Foreign Tourist Assistance Services (SATE) in Benidorm offer personalized support to foreign tourists who have experienced criminal offenses or similar incidents.
