Barcelona’s two reasons for ‘urgent’ Marcus Rashford transfer and star who’ll have to leave

Must read

Barcelona are interested in signing Marcus Rashford and want to secure a deal quickly for two reasons.

The United forward is keen to take on a new challenge after a difficult period at Old Trafford and has been left out all but one of Ruben Amorim’s last eight Red Devils’ squads. The club are happy to facilitate his exit, though Rashford’s £325,000-per-week salary has ensured any loan deal is not straightforward.

The 27-year-old’s representatives have met with Barca chiefs while discussions are also said to have taken place with Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan. The latter are even said to have set a deadline for Rashford to make his decision.

Rashford is thought to have preferred a move to La Liga, making Barcelona a leading candidate. Now the Catalan side could look to move quickly.

Barca want to wrap up a deal quickly to avoid being beaten to Rashford’s signature by Borussia Dortmund per SPORT. Hansi Flick is also said to be keen on landing Rashford and is a big admirer.

The La Liga side’s financial constraints mean that a deal will not necessarily come easily. It is said Barcelona would need to facilitate an exit for Ansu Fati if Rashford was to arrive at the Camp Nou.

The 22-year-old winger has started just once this season after spending last year on loan at Brighton. The 22-year-old has struggled with injuries in recent years after becoming Barca’s youngest ever goalscorer in 2019, before seeing his record beaten by Lamine Yamal.

Rashford was absent from United’s defeat to Brighton this week and may have already played his final game for his boyhood club. The academy product has been unable to work his way into Amorim’s plans despite the new boss only earning two Premier League wins in 10 games.

Speaking last week head coach Amorim admitted he did not if the forward would represent the club again. “I don’t know, we’ll see,” Amorim said.

“He is a player for Manchester United. We’ll see. He has to work. He has to represent this club, and he loves this club, but I have to make choices. [I] already spoke about how I make the choices. So it is what it is. So let’s continue. Let’s see the next game. And like I said, I have to make a selection.”
