Wanted: reinforcements.
That’s the sign Mikel Arteta will be putting up outside London Colney if Arsenal don’t make bring in some new players soon. The Gunners’ squad is getting thinner as their Premier League title chances get slimmer, as shown in Saturday’s frustrating 2-2 draw at home to Aston Villa which saw them squander a two-goal lead.
A striker is top of Arsenal’s wish-list, with Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres continually linked. Arsenal will need to get it right, having fallen six points behind pace-setters Liverpool, who also have one game in hand.
Here’s a round-up of the latest transfer news from the Emirates.
Arsenal are considering making a £70million bid for RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko. The Sun report that Sesko, 21, is expected to leave the Bundesliga outfit this summer, although Arsenal are weighing up an offer which, if accepted, would bring the Slovenia international to the Emirates this month.
Sesko was a target for Arsenal in the summer but the Gunners missed out, as the striker signed a new long-term contract with Leipzig. His new deal removed the much talked-about £55m release clause which multiple Premier League clubs were rumoured to have triggered.

Real Madrid reportedly plan to make a move for William Saliba this summer. The reigning Spanish and European champions have long been linked with a move for Saliba and Foot Mercato claim that the wheels at the Bernabeu are turning.
The French centre-back is being eyed for a summer transfer, with Madrid’s ageing backline in need to renewal. Saliba, 23 could be part of a double Premier League swoop, with Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold also a target.
Mikel Arteta has sent his clearest message yet that Arsenal’s owners need to give him funds to spend in the January transfer window. Speaking after their disappointing 2-2 draw with Aston Villa, Arteta claimed that the Gunners are ‘very, very short’ when it comes to having strength in depth compared to their title rivals.
Asked if the result increased the pressure to make new signings, the Arsenal manager replied: “When asked if the result cranks up the pressure to make signings, Arteta said: “Not the result, I think when you look at the performances, I don’t know how many teams are playing at this level in the league. When you look at the bench you probably say, ‘Look at the bench, we are very, very short’.”
