“Aldi Slashes Prices on 900+ Items, Plans New Store Openings”

Must read

Aldi recently announced a reduction in prices for over 900 products in its lineup. The supermarket disclosed that it has dedicated more than £300 million towards slashing prices since the beginning of 2025, encompassing various categories such as fresh produce, bakery items, dairy products, and household essentials.

According to Julie Ashfield, the Chief Commercial Officer at Aldi UK, the company recognizes the impact of rising inflation on consumers’ spending habits. To support its customers during this period, Aldi has already injected over £300 million into price reductions this year, ensuring that shoppers receive exceptional value for their money.

Acknowledging the significance of competitive pricing, especially as the holiday season approaches, Aldi remains committed to offering substantial savings compared to mainstream supermarkets. This commitment to affordability aligns with Aldi’s ethos of prioritizing value for its customers.

In a recent assessment by Which?, Aldi retained its title as the most affordable supermarket. The consumer group’s study revealed that a basket of 75 items cost an average of £127.92 at Aldi in August 2025, making it 38p cheaper than an equivalent basket at Lidl, which totaled £128.30 with the Lidl Plus loyalty scheme. The list included both branded and own-label products like Birds Eye Peas, Hovis bread, and dairy items.

For Tesco Clubcard holders, the average expenditure stood at £142.36, while non-members paid £145.01 for the same basket. Sainsbury’s Nectar cardholders spent an average of £144.75, compared to £149.02 for non-cardholders.

Aldi also unveiled plans to open approximately one new store per week until the year’s end. Confirmed locations include Sefton in Liverpool, Pacific Drive in Eastbourne, Brimington in Chesterfield, and Shoreditch in London.

Additionally, Aldi released an updated list of preferred sites across the UK for new store openings. The ideal location should accommodate a 20,000 sq ft store with ample parking spaces, close proximity to main roads, and good visibility and accessibility.

Moreover, the supermarket is actively seeking locations to introduce its Aldi Local store format in Central London zones one and two. These compact stores typically require a minimum trading space of 5,000 sq ft and an additional 3,000 sq ft of ancillary space.

In line with its employee-friendly policies, Aldi will close all its stores on Boxing Day, allowing staff to enjoy the festive season with loved ones. The stores will also remain closed on New Year’s Day, reopening on January 2, 2026. Extended operating hours leading up to Christmas will provide customers with ample opportunities to stock up for the holidays.
