A recent study has unveiled the types of jobs most vulnerable to replacement by Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the upcoming year. The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) conducted a survey of over 2,000 employers regarding their recruitment, layoff, and salary strategies for the next year.
According to the findings, 17% of employers anticipate a reduction in their workforce due to AI, with 62% identifying clerical, junior managerial, professional, and administrative positions as the most likely to be affected. Among them, 26% of employers in large private sector organizations foresee a decrease in their workforce compared to 17% in the private sector and 20% in the public sector.
Furthermore, a quarter of those expecting job cuts project a reduction of more than 10% in their workforce. While 22% of employers plan to make staff redundant in the three months leading up to December 2025, a significant 61% intend to recruit for new positions.
James Cockett, a senior labor market economist at CIPD, emphasized the transformative impact of AI on work dynamics. He stressed the importance of a national initiative to retrain and upskill individuals of all ages and career stages to adapt to an AI-driven economy.
As the UK’s unemployment rate reached 5% in the three months ending September, its highest level since August 2016, excluding pandemic-related distortions, workforce planning and skill development have become crucial in navigating the evolving job landscape.
