Iran Warns Against U.S. Economic Threats

Must read

Iran’s foreign minister has dismissed recent threats from U.S. President Donald Trump, who announced intentions to initiate the “MOST CRUSHING ECONOMIC OPERATION EVER TAKEN” against Iran. Abbas Araghchi stated on Thursday that Trump’s proposed “Economic D-Day” diversion aims to shift focus from America’s internal crisis of escalating debt and interest costs.

Araghchi emphasized that persisting with failed strategies will only lead to more defeats and hostilities towards Iranians. He warned that U.S. economic tactics amount to global economic and sovereignty threats. Trump’s declaration of upcoming “Economic Warfare and Isolation” against Iran followed the failure to secure a lasting resolution to the ongoing conflict.

In a Truth Social post, the U.S. president cautioned against extending any assistance to Iran, emphasizing “TREMENDOUS Economic Consequences” for countries supporting Iran. Trump called for a unified front with allies to combat the perceived Iran threat without specifying targeted nations or the exact measures the U.S. would adopt.

China, a significant buyer of Iran’s oil, faces potential repercussions if the U.S. escalates economic actions against Iran, risking retaliatory measures. When questioned about Trump’s economic warnings, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian advocated for a diplomatic resolution, denouncing sanctions and pressure tactics as ineffective solutions.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent suggested that focusing on economic measures could reduce the necessity for large-scale military operations against Tehran. Following the U.S. threats of financial penalties, oil prices surged to a three-week high as the U.S. sought to compel an end to the prolonged conflict disrupting Middle Eastern oil supplies.

Noted expert Dan Shapiro criticized Trump’s approach, highlighting Iran’s capacity to withstand and retaliate against economic pressure. Shapiro underscored the need for a comprehensive understanding of Iran’s responses and the potential impact on global partners and economies. The ongoing conflict has left thousands dead, with peace talks failing to yield a lasting agreement.

As the 60-day negotiation period expired without an extension, both nations remain at a deadlock in their pursuit of peace. Trump hinted at the possibility of resuming talks in the future, leaving the prospect of further diplomatic engagements open.
