“Calgary Wild Upsets Ottawa Rapid 4-3 in Northern Super League Clash”

Serita Thurton netted two goals in the opening half as the Calgary Wild, sitting at the bottom of the league standings, surprised the Ottawa Rapid, who lead the league, with a 4-3 victory in a Northern Super League match at McMahon Stadium on Saturday.

Kahli Johnson broke the deadlock with a goal in the 15th minute for the home team, before Thurton doubled the lead around 13 minutes later.

Ottawa’s Jung Min-Young found the back of the net in the 38th minute, and Melanie Forbes equalized at 2-2 just before the end of the first half.

Thurton completed her brace just before halftime, putting the Wild in the lead for good.

Jorian Baucom also contributed a goal for the Wild, who now have a record of two wins, 12 losses, and two draws.

Jyllissa Harris converted a penalty in the 86th minute for the Rapid, whose record dropped to 10 wins, three losses, and three draws. This defeat ended Ottawa’s unbeaten streak of 10 matches.

The Rapid had 54% possession but were outshot 16-13 (with 9 shots on target for the Wild and 6 for Ottawa).

The Wild earned six of the game’s 11 corners, while Ottawa received one yellow card and one red card.

In another match, Jessica De Filippo scored in the 57th minute to level the score and then completed a late winner five minutes into stoppage time, leading the Vancouver Rise to a 2-1 triumph over the Halifax Tides at Swangard Stadium in Burnaby, B.C.

Jordyn Rhodes put the fourth-placed Tides ahead with a goal in the 19th minute.

The Rise dominated possession with 56%, outshooting the Tides 18-13, including 6 shots on target to Halifax’s 4.

Halifax took four of the six corners in the game, while Vancouver received two of the three yellow cards issued.
