This initiative, in collaboration with Family Holiday Charity, will provide breaks at various destinations along the West Coast Main Line, spanning from London to Glasgow and Edinburgh through the West Midlands and north-west England.
Families facing financial hardships, bereavement, caring responsibilities, housing insecurity, and domestic violence will have the chance to benefit from these getaways. Kathryn O’Brien, the customer experience director at Avanti West Coast, expressed the company’s pride in supporting families to partake in holidays they might not have otherwise experienced. She highlighted the picturesque towns and seaside locations along the West Coast Main Line as ideal spots for families to create lasting memories and escape from their daily challenges.
The collaboration between Avanti West Coast and Family Holiday Charity aims to cater to families who have never traveled together by rail or have never had the opportunity to go on a holiday. The project, described as a summer pilot, will initially assist six families with travel arrangements, marking a unique initiative within the rail industry.
Family Holiday Charity operates on referrals from sources like social workers and the NHS to identify individuals in need of assistance. The charity’s mission revolves around providing opportunities for families to create enduring memories, try new experiences, and strengthen their bonds through holidays.
