The competition for the prestigious title of Weather Photographer of the Year is in full swing, showcasing stunning images capturing the essence of Mother Nature in action. The Royal Meteorological Society has unveiled a collection of last year’s winning photographs, featuring a variety of awe-inspiring scenes including a circular rainbow, a Texas storm, and a captivating UFO-style cloud.
Now in its second decade, the global photography competition, which has just opened for submissions, calls on photographers worldwide to submit visually impactful images that portray the strength, beauty, and influence of weather. The showcased images not only highlight dramatic weather phenomena but also underscore the evolving impact of climate change.
According to Prof Liz Bentley FRMetS, Chief Executive of the Royal Meteorological Society, the Weather Photographer of the Year competition serves as a platform to showcase the intricate ways in which weather shapes our environment, from moments of natural splendor to events of significant consequence. In a changing climate, these images assume a crucial role in aiding individuals in comprehending and engaging with the science of weather and climate.
Photographers of all skill levels, ranging from seasoned professionals to passionate enthusiasts, are encouraged to participate in the free-to-enter competition. The winners of the competition will be announced in November, celebrating the exceptional talent and creativity in capturing the essence of weather through photography.
