“Alpine Pushes for Review of Gasly Penalties”

Must read

The aftermath of the recent Monaco Grand Prix has taken a new turn as Alpine has progressed with their Right of Review application. Following the race in Monte Carlo, Alpine initiated a review concerning two penalties imposed on driver Pierre Gasly for exceeding the pit lane speed limit by a marginal amount.

Despite Gasly’s belief that he had clinched a podium finish by finishing third on track, the subsequent application of a second five-second penalty pushed him down to seventh place. Expressing his discontent with the situation, Gasly and his team pursued the Right of Review process.

To proceed with the review, Alpine had to present fresh evidence not available to the stewards during the initial ruling. In a rare occurrence, Alpine successfully met this demanding criterion, arguing that the stewards were unaware of timing loop issues in the pit lane, affecting speed measurements during the Grand Prix.

Alpine substantiated their case by providing data indicating Gasly activated his speed limiter before entering the pit lane, backed by a statement from Gasly and evidence from Formula One Management revealing inaccuracies in speed calculations due to faulty timing loops.

The matter will progress to a second hearing where Alpine will contest the penalties imposed on Gasly, potentially leading to a revision of the Monaco Grand Prix results. Similar penalties affected other drivers like George Russell, whose situation following a penalty remains unresolved.
