The individual accused in connection with the tragic car crash involving Anthony Joshua has made a court appearance in Nigeria. The incident resulted in the fatalities of Joshua’s personal trainer, Latif Ayodele, and strength coach, Sina Ghami, after their vehicle collided with a stationary lorry near Lagos on December 29. While Joshua sustained injuries and was hospitalized, he survived the crash.
Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, aged 46, attended Sagamu Magistrates Court in Ogun state near Lagos, where his case was adjourned to March 13. Previously, on January 20, he faced charges of causing death by dangerous driving and reckless and negligent driving. Kayode, who was granted bail of approximately £2,600, has not entered a plea yet. Additionally, he is accused of driving without due care and without a valid driver’s license, potentially facing a life sentence. Prosecutors requested more time to collect evidence.
Joshua narrowly escaped death in the collision and was discharged from the hospital on New Year’s Eve. He returned to the UK in early January and is undergoing rehabilitation. Speaking about his recovery, Joshua expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support he has received during the challenging period following the loss of his colleagues in the accident.
Joshua emphasized the significant role that his late friends played in his life, both personally and professionally, highlighting the deep impact of their absence. He vowed to honor their legacy and dreams, ensuring their memory lives on. Joshua remains focused on continuing their work and preserving their influence in the boxing world.
