“Bankruptcy Extended: Ex-jockey Frankie Dettori Faces Prosecution”

Must read

Former jockey Frankie Dettori’s bankruptcy has been extended for another year by a judge following a specialist hearing. The bankruptcy order, filed in March 2025 after issues with tax affairs, will now continue until March 16, 2027. Dettori, who did not attend the hearing, faces potential criminal prosecution if he does not cooperate.

The 55-year-old jockey, who retired recently, owed significant amounts to HMRC and a car leasing company, totaling nearly £900,000 including liquidators’ fees. Despite being interviewed about his assets, Dettori failed to disclose properties abroad, a watch, wine collection, and investments worth hundreds of thousands of pounds.

Judge Nicholas Briggs emphasized Dettori’s lack of compliance and the need for thorough investigation, hinting at potential criminal sanctions. Dettori, a renowned jockey with multiple British Classic wins, has transitioned to an ambassadorial role for the Amo Racing team after initially retiring in 2023 and subsequently continuing his career.

Dettori has a history of legal battles over tax affairs, including an unsuccessful attempt to remain anonymous in tribunal proceedings in 2024. Despite various appeals and requests for privacy, the Upper Tribunal overturned decisions to keep parts of his case confidential.
