“Cheltenham Festival Trend: Racing Fans Flock to Benidorm”

Must read

The upcoming 2026 Cheltenham Festival is expected to attract horse racing enthusiasts from around the world. Interestingly, a growing number of punters are opting to experience the festival in Benidorm, Spain, rather than in the UK.

Scheduled to kick off at Cheltenham Races on Tuesday afternoon, the festival promises four days filled with thrilling races, betting opportunities, and socializing. While ticket sales are projected to be brisk, a significant portion of attendees are embracing the trend of enjoying the festival in alternative locations.

According to reports from The Sun, hotel reservations in Benidorm have surged by a staggering 225% during the festival period, with The Marina Resort Hotel emerging as a preferred hotspot. The resort offers amenities such as large TV screens, pool parties, and live DJ performances to enhance the festival experience.

Many festival-goers also participate in racing-themed fancy dress and benefit from more affordable drink prices in Spain, with the cost of a pint estimated at approximately £1.70, a substantial saving compared to the £7.50 price tag at Cheltenham, although this represents a decrease from previous years.

Zoe Harris, the chief customer officer of package holiday company On the Beach, expressed excitement about the growing enthusiasm for the Cheltenham Festival in Benidorm, anticipating a vibrant atmosphere during the event.

This rising trend of a Cheltenham-themed trip to Benidorm coincides with several changes announced for the 2026 edition of the festival. Notable adjustments include reduced prices for Guinness and other beverages, expanded freedom for race-goers to carry drinks throughout the venue, upgraded food and drink offerings, and the reintroduction of Ladies Day to the calendar.

To further enhance the experience, a new PA system has been installed, and the overall capacity of the racecourse has been slightly decreased to around 66,000 attendees. These modifications aim to enrich the festival experience for both seasoned and first-time visitors.
