“Armed Forces Set for Above-Inflation Pay Increase”

Must read

The armed forces are in line for a salary increase as satisfaction among military personnel is on the rise following a period of discontent during the previous administration.

According to sources at the Sunday Mirror, an announcement of an above-inflation pay hike is imminent. This news coincides with recent data from the Armed Forces Continuous Attitude Survey indicating a positive shift in morale.

A government insider emphasized the importance of recognizing the exceptional service of the armed forces, noting the heightened global risks that necessitate an appropriate salary adjustment. Additionally, a representative from the Labour party highlighted their commitment to reversing the decline in real wages experienced by troops under the previous government.

Recent pay raises have ensured that all ranks, including new recruits, now receive at least a living wage, a stark contrast to the situation under the previous administration.

The survey results revealed a notable improvement in overall satisfaction with military life, with 45% expressing contentment, a 3% increase from the previous year. Satisfaction with basic pay, which had declined significantly under the previous administration, has seen a resurgence to 37%.

Under the previous Labour government, satisfaction with service pay peaked at 52% in 2010. The upcoming pay increase will mark the third salary boost since Labour took office, with the initial raise being the most substantial in two decades.

Furthermore, there have been advancements in military housing, with a notable increase in satisfaction regarding maintenance requests under the current administration. Efforts to bring military homes back into public ownership and upgrade family residences are well underway, with significant progress already achieved.

In response to the survey findings, Labour’s Defence Secretary emphasized the government’s dedication to enhancing military morale and improving the lives of armed forces personnel and their families. The focus is on addressing past neglect, ensuring fair compensation, improved conditions, and upgraded housing for military personnel.

The Ministry of Defence confirmed that the Armed Forces’ Pay Review Body has submitted its recommendations, with details of the pay award to be disclosed soon, retroactive to the beginning of the Armed Forces pay year in April 2026.
