London Trocadero, a famed building located at 30 Shaftesbury Avenue, holds nostalgic memories for 90s kids and the young at heart. Formerly known for housing SegaWorld and later Funland from 1996 to 2011, this multi-level entertainment complex featured a signature indoor drop ride and a plethora of classic arcade games.
Following its closure, the Trocadero faced an uncertain future, remaining vacant until 2025 when Zedwell Piccadilly transformed a significant portion into a pod hotel with 728 windowless rooms and a spacious rooftop bar. Presently, plans are underway to convert a section of the building into a sizable JD Wetherspoon branch, marking the chain’s first venture in London’s Theatreland.
Dubbed Piccadilly Hall, the upcoming pub will pay homage to a historic hall that lent its name to Piccadilly Circus centuries ago. Spanning 3,600 square feet and accommodating 280 guests, Piccadilly Hall will offer Wetherspoon’s signature breakfasts, all-day dining options, and beverages. Anticipated to attract theatergoers, tourists, and locals due to its central location, the opening date for this London establishment is yet to be confirmed.
In recent developments, JD Wetherspoon extended its reach beyond the UK by launching a branch at Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport, offering a blend of British and Spanish cuisine. The chain also expanded its presence with new locations within Haven holiday parks.
Future openings for JD Wetherspoon include The Sir Ronald Wates in Guildford, the first university-owned branch on the University of Surrey campus, and The William Chambers in Edinburgh, housed in a former multi-storey bar and club. Founder and chairman Tim Martin expressed enthusiasm about the Theatreland venue, emphasizing its alignment with the brand’s commitment to providing quality food and drinks at affordable prices in historically significant buildings.
