Five individuals lost their lives in a tragic accident in Co Louth over the weekend during inclement weather conditions. The incident occurred on the L3168 just outside Dundalk, involving a Volkswagen Golf and a Toyota Land Cruiser. The victims, three men and two women in their 20s, were pronounced dead at the scene.
Following the crash, authorities declared a ‘major incident response’ with investigators continuing their work on the scene. One male occupant of the Volkswagen Golf sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Two individuals from the Toyota Land Cruiser were also hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
Superintendent Charlie Armstrong praised the professionalism and care shown by emergency responders at the challenging scene. The tragic event has deeply affected the communities in Carrickmacross, Dromconrath, and Dundalk.
An incident room has been set up at Dundalk Garda Station to investigate the collision, with a Senior Investigating Officer leading the inquiry. Authorities are urging anyone with camera footage or images of the area between specific times to contact the Garda investigation team for assistance.
