A woman who survived the Chernobyl nuclear disaster but lost her husband in the tragic event has tragically passed away due to a Russian missile strike on her apartment building.
Natalia Khodemchuk, 62, the widow of a man who perished in the Chernobyl explosion in 1986, succumbed to severe burns covering 45% of her body sustained during the recent attack ordered by Vladimir Putin. Her husband, Valery Khodemchuk, was one of the victims of the Chernobyl incident, never to be found after being “vaporized” at the age of 35. Natalia, who survived the nuclear catastrophe, became a casualty of the recent Russian assault almost four decades later.
Another survivor of the Chernobyl disaster, Oleksiy Ananenko, 66, who bravely averted further nuclear catastrophe by risking his life to prevent a second explosion, also suffered damage to his apartment in Kyiv from the recent Russian attack. Ananenko, along with two other courageous individuals known as “suicide divers,” volunteered for a dangerous mission during the Chernobyl crisis. Despite his heroic actions, Ananenko humbly stated that he was simply fulfilling his duty.
