“Keir Starmer Chairs Crucial Meeting on Ukraine Peace Talks”

Must read

Keir Starmer is set to chair a crucial meeting with allies amid indications from Donald Trump that there may be positive developments in Ukraine peace negotiations.

The Prime Minister will lead discussions with the coalition of over 30 nations, known as the coalition of the willing, dedicated to overseeing any peace agreement. These countries have committed to ensuring Kyiv’s safety in the event of a resolution with Russia to halt the ongoing conflict.

Concerns arose over the weekend in Ukraine, the UK, and European capitals following the leak of a 28-point US peace proposal aimed at ending the violent conflict in Ukraine. The plan included significant concessions to Moscow, such as reducing Ukraine’s armed forces and forgoing plans to join NATO.

After crucial talks in Geneva on Sunday involving officials from Europe, Ukraine, and the US, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio reported substantial progress. He noted positive contributions toward gaining acceptance of the plan by both European and Ukrainian parties.

In a social media post, the US President also expressed optimism about potential positive developments in the peace talks between Russia and Ukraine. Keir Starmer, when asked about progress on Ukraine, emphasized the ongoing talks in Geneva and the importance of achieving a fair and enduring peace.

Starmer highlighted the significance of a just and lasting peace, stressing the need for Ukraine to determine its own fate, while also emphasizing the broader impact of the conflict on other nations. He mentioned plans to virtually convene the coalition of the willing to further discuss advancements and work towards a favorable resolution.

Earlier, the PM’s official spokesperson acknowledged Starmer’s approval of the substantial progress made during the Geneva meetings. When questioned about potential disagreements between Washington and Europe regarding the peace plan, the spokesperson reiterated the positive strides made in achieving a just and lasting peace for Ukraine and the commitment of both the US and Ukraine to continue intensive work on the plan.

Continued engagement with world leaders is expected in the coming days as efforts persist to advance the peace process.
