A fundraising page allegedly created by Christian Brueckner, the prime suspect in the Madeleine McCann case, has been initiated on GoFundMe, imploring individuals to contribute thousands of pounds for his departure from Germany.
Brueckner, a convicted rapist linked to the Madeleine McCann disappearance, established the fundraiser after being released from prison. He had served a seven-year sentence for assaulting a 72-year-old woman in Portugal’s Algarve region, the same area where Madeleine vanished. Brueckner had mentioned his intention to set up the fundraiser to a friend, stating that support from others could facilitate his departure from Germany.
Seeking €26,000 (£22,860) to exit Germany, Brueckner turned to the popular crowdfunding platform to solicit donations. Addressing the nation’s taxpayers in his plea, he expressed a desire to legally leave Germany to escape the constant suspicion, prejudice, and intense scrutiny he faced, aiming for a fresh start elsewhere.
He detailed that even a small amount, such as 10 Euros, could contribute to his airport coffee fund, while 50 Euros could secure a one-way ticket to a jurisdiction beyond the reach of Germany’s Federal Criminal Police Office. Brueckner emphasized the potential for both personal respite and public benefit from his departure.
Despite receiving unemployment benefits and searching for employment in Germany, Brueckner faced backlash from locals in the suburb where he resided post-release. Facing criticism and a petition demanding his eviction, Brueckner’s legal team opted to relocate him to southern Germany, hoping to evade public scrutiny in a larger urban setting.
The fundraising campaign amassed €100 in donations before it was removed from GoFundMe due to violations of the platform’s terms of service. Donors were promptly refunded by GoFundMe, ensuring compliance with their guidelines.
