“Comatose Man Accuses Pregnant Girlfriend of Causing Crash”

Must read

A man expecting a child, who ended up in a comatose state following a severe car accident, regained consciousness briefly to accuse his pregnant girlfriend of causing the crash. Daniel Waterman sustained serious injuries from the collision, including broken bones, spinal damage, and punctured lungs, after the vehicle he was in with Leigha Mumby crashed into a tree on February 9.

After months in a coma, the 22-year-old managed to communicate with detectives using a whiteboard, despite his limited ability to speak. Waterman disclosed a heated argument with Mumby, triggered by her pregnancy revelation and her anger over a harmless text he received from a female friend who shared his sports interests.

According to Daniel’s account, the dispute escalated while Mumby was driving on Interstate 95 in Flagler County, Florida. He claimed that she drove recklessly, prompting him to try to exit the moving vehicle for safety. Allegedly, Mumby accelerated the car to high speeds, expressing indifference to his safety before deliberately crashing into a tree.

Although Mumby also suffered injuries from the crash and has given birth since, she denies knowledge of the events leading to the collision. However, investigators confirmed the accuracy of Daniel’s version through the car’s event data recorder.

Despite showing signs of recovery, Daniel’s health deteriorated, and he succumbed to pneumonia on October 8. Subsequently, Mumby was charged with vehicular homicide and detained in Flagler County Jail. Daniel’s family is now seeking custody of his child, pending a paternity test, to ensure the baby’s upbringing reflects his father’s values and memories.
