“Keir Starmer Announces £400M Transport Contracts at G20 Summit”

During the international summit in South Africa, the Prime Minister will advocate for British businesses leading up to the upcoming Budget announcement next week.

The forthcoming financial statement by Rachel Reeves is anticipated to feature significant measures addressing the cost of living crisis and aiming to increase disposable income for working individuals.

Expressing the belief that collaboration with global partners is vital for economic growth, Mr. Starmer emphasized the importance of such interactions. As part of his visit to South Africa, he will tour a train depot in Johannesburg to inspect trains manufactured in Derby.

An agreement is set to be revealed between the UK and South Africa to provide British expertise for enhancing the South African rail system. Crossrail International, a UK Government-owned entity, will offer guidance to attract private investments into the South African railway sector.

Additionally, the UK and Vietnam are teaming up to drive digital advancements within Vietnam’s railway networks.

British Steel is set to benefit from a £35 million contract to supply products for Turkey’s high-speed rail network. Furthermore, Rolls Royce will be supplying new jet engines to Air Algerie.

In a significant development, the UK has secured an initial contract to assist the South African Navy in evaluating the operational readiness of their Type 209 submarines and conducting maintenance on at least one of them. This contract marks Babcock, a British defense company, securing its first defense contract in South Africa.

A new UK-South Africa agreement aims to reduce bureaucratic hurdles, estimated to potentially add between £400 million and £700 million to UK businesses over the next five years.

Mr. Starmer asserted, “Collaborating with international partners to generate employment and opportunities domestically is a surefire way to foster growth.”

Downing Street reiterated the Prime Minister’s commitment to prioritize delivering beneficial outcomes for domestic interests through strong international alliances.
