“Nigel Farage under fire for proposal to cut EU citizens’ benefits”

Must read

Nigel Farage is facing criticism for his proposal to reduce benefits for millions of EU citizens, potentially relegating them to a lower status. The leader of Reform UK declared intentions to restrict welfare access, such as Universal Credit, to individuals from European Union nations. Critics argue that this move could lead to trade disputes with neighboring countries, causing price hikes in supermarkets.

When questioned about the fairness of his plan by The Mirror, Farage acknowledged that there may be immediate concerns for some individuals. TUC general secretary Paul Nowak condemned the proposal, emphasizing that long-term EU workers in the UK who have paid taxes should not be treated unfairly.

Farage also revealed plans to raise the NHS surcharge for foreign nationals in the UK. However, the implications of renegotiating the Brexit agreement with the EU remain unclear, as Farage mentioned his strained relationship with Brussels.

Tom Brufatto, policy director of Best for Britain, criticized Farage’s agenda for potentially disrupting UK-EU relations and harming businesses. The policies, according to Brufatto, could worsen the cost of living for struggling voters.

Labour MP Luke Charters mocked Farage’s ability to negotiate a new deal swiftly after his involvement in Brexit. When asked about the ramifications of only British citizens having a safety net in case of layoffs, Farage stressed the need to address the current employment challenges affecting millions of working-age individuals.
