“Navy Ex-Leader Warns of Nuclear Risk in Russia-Ukraine Conflict”

Must read

The ex-leader of the Navy has cautioned that the conflict between Russia and Ukraine could escalate into a nuclear showdown. Admiral Lord West, former First Sea Lord, issued this grave warning while asserting that Britain is essentially engaged in a conflict with Moscow.

He highlighted the concept of “grey zone warfare,” referring to hostile actions that do not align with traditional armed confrontations, such as Russian interference with undersea cables and drone trespasses along Nato’s eastern borders.

Lord West expressed on the Lord Speaker’s podcast the challenge of finding a resolution to the conflict, as full-scale warfare between Nato and Russia would be unfavorable, with potential nuclear risks if Russia were to face defeat.

Former Nato General Secretary Lord Robertson, who led a comprehensive defense review, criticized Britain’s lack of preparedness for the existing threats. Previous alerts from experts have highlighted Russia’s increasing aggressive activities against the UK, including cyberattacks, espionage flights, arson attacks, and submarine intrusions.

Sir Ken McCallum, head of MI5, recently stated that Russia is dedicated to causing chaos globally but is now resorting to proxy agents after its spies were expelled from European embassies.

Lord Robertson emphasized on the podcast the inadequate readiness, vulnerability, and ongoing cyber assaults faced by Britain, despite the lack of public awareness about these threats.

He also pointed out that the recent cyber disruptions were likely orchestrated by the GRU, the Russian military, indicating a coordinated sabotage effort across Europe.

In addition, Lord Robertson expressed concerns that Vladimir Putin’s ambitions extend beyond territorial gains in eastern Ukraine, posing a broader security threat to neighboring countries like Moldova and Azerbaijan.

He stressed the importance of backing President Zelenskyy and the Ukrainian government to dissuade Vladimir Putin and prevent further territorial advances, highlighting the necessity to demonstrate that Putin’s current actions are not yielding significant gains.
