A passenger on a train in Huntingdon recounted a terrifying incident where a man armed with a knife threatened him with the words “do you want to die” repeatedly. Stephen Crean, a Londoner who intervened during the mass stabbing, described the chaotic scene that unfolded on the train journey from Grantham to London King’s Cross after he boarded the train following a Nottingham Forest vs Manchester United game.
According to Stephen, as he and other passengers sought refuge near the buffet bar upon hearing about the knife-wielding man, he found himself face-to-face with the assailant who menacingly brandished the blade and uttered the threatening words multiple times.
The violent episode resulted in eleven passengers sustaining injuries on the LNER train bound for London. The train made an emergency stop at Huntingdon in Cambridgeshire, with four victims discharged from the hospital while two, including a courageous train worker, remained in critical condition.
Anthony Williams, aged 32, appeared in Peterborough Magistrates’ Court facing charges of ten counts of attempted murder and one count of actual bodily harm related to the train attack. Additionally, he faces a charge of attempted murder connected to a separate incident on London’s DLR network. Williams, who appeared in court in a grey tracksuit and was denied bail due to the severity of the charges, is set to appear at Cambridge Crown Court on December 1, 2025.
During the court proceedings, Williams remained silent when asked to provide his address, indicating he had no fixed abode.
