A 28-year-old teacher, Teresa Whalin, is accused of engaging in a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old student and later stalking him after their breakup. The alleged misconduct involved exchanging nude photos and creating fake phone numbers to contact the student.
The student reportedly faced mental health challenges following the relationship that began in April 2023. According to an affidavit, the student referred to their interactions as “dating,” involving Snapchat messages, dining together, and spending time in the teacher’s classroom.
After the student ended communication with the teacher, she allegedly resorted to stalking him, citing difficulties coping with the breakup. Whalin purportedly went to the student’s residence and appeared along his school route in Denver, Colorado.
Upon the student disclosing the sexual relationship to a school counselor, authorities were alerted, leading to Whalin’s arrest on the same day. During a police interview, Whalin reportedly confessed to the inappropriate relationship, including exchanging nude photos and using fake numbers to contact the student anonymously.
Whalin faces charges of sexual assault on a child in a position of trust, internet exploitation of a child, and stalking. She is currently held at the Douglas County Detention Center on a $50,000 bond. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Whalin has been employed by the school district since July 2021, placed on administrative leave post-arrest, and the district is cooperating with the investigation.
The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
