Daycare Worker Accused of Breaking Infant’s Arm

Must read

A daycare worker has been taken into custody and accused of causing a three-month-old infant’s arm injury, authorities have disclosed.

Ashley Karschnick, aged 32, allegedly became agitated when the baby cried each time she handled her, leading to forcefully striking the baby against a crib, resulting in a broken arm.

Karschnick faces a felony charge of child abuse for recklessly causing harm in relation to the incident at Lily Pad Day Care in Fond du Lac. Police were alerted to the situation when the baby girl was hospitalized with a fractured arm.

Medical records from Children’s Wisconsin indicate the baby sustained a specific type of fracture consistent with physical abuse.

Following an investigation involving interviews and surveillance footage analysis, authorities confirmed Karschnick’s escalating frustration throughout the day in the baby room where the alleged abuse occurred.

The incident that led to the baby’s injury reportedly took place around 12:30 p.m., with video evidence showing Karschnick forcefully handling the infant. Subsequent footage captured her attempting to soothe the crying baby without success.

Despite clear video evidence, Karschnick denied the accusations, attributing the incident to accidental contact with the crib. She claimed the baby’s crying triggered her actions.

Karschnick is currently detained, having posted a bond of $2,500 (£1,916). During a recent court hearing, her defense requested permission for her to access public places with children present, but the judge upheld the existing bond conditions.
