A couple enjoying a thrilling ride at their favorite amusement park sprang into action when they heard distressing screams behind them. The pair realized a young girl’s seatbelt had come undone, prompting them to intervene swiftly. A photo capturing the intense moment has circulated widely on social media.
Chris and Cassie Evins, parents of four, were at Worlds of Fun in Kansas City, Missouri on October 11 for what they expected to be a fun day out. While riding the Mamba roller coaster, which reaches speeds of 75mph and heights of 205ft, they noticed a fellow rider in distress.
The girl behind Chris’s wife began screaming in panic as her seatbelt malfunctioned. Chris quickly secured her by looping his arm under the lap bar, while Cassie held onto the girl’s legs during the turbulent ride. Despite the dangerous situation, the couple managed to keep the girl safe by anticipating the coaster’s movements and adjusting their positions accordingly.
Following the incident, the park confirmed that additional restraints were in place and promptly shut down the ride for inspection. They assured that necessary safety modifications were made to meet or exceed safety standards before reopening the ride to guests.
In a statement to UNILAD, park officials emphasized that the roller coaster is equipped with a multi-layered restraint system, with lap bars serving as the primary restraint and seat belts as a secondary measure. Multiple inspections found no evidence of restraint failure, ensuring the ride’s continued safe operation.
The ride underwent a thorough safety review by the Fire Marshal, which confirmed the functionality of the lap bars and seat belt buckles. Minor adjustments were made to some seat belts to ensure compliance with safety regulations before the ride resumed operations.
