“Mother Raises £1.5M for Infant’s Life-Saving Heart Surgery”

Must read

A 14-month-old infant has been scheduled for life-saving heart surgery after his mother successfully raised nearly £1.5 million for his medical treatment in the United States.

Jasmin Roberts, the mother, has been advocating to gather the substantial sum for her young son, who was born with a rare and intricate heart condition called pulmonary atresia with ventricular septal defect and major aortopulmonary collateral arteries (PA-VSD MAPCAs). Without the necessary surgery, this condition could severely limit Ollie’s lifespan to under two years.

The crucial £1.5 million was required to cover the cost of the life-saving operation at Stanford, USA, renowned for treating Ollie’s specific condition. Due to the limited options for treatment under the NHS in the UK, Jasmin pursued the fundraising independently.

Having raised over 90% of the target amount, Jasmin was able to secure a surgery date at the Stanford medical center after surpassing the 75% milestone. The surgery is set for January 23, 2026, once the full 100% funding goal is reached.

Expressing her relief, Jasmin shared with the Mirror, “I can see the finish line approaching, and I am eager for the fundraiser to conclude so I can finally relax. Although we have raised a significant amount, the remaining £100,000 is still a considerable sum to gather.”

Ollie’s story gained widespread attention on social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram, resulting in a remarkable 81,000 donations from various individuals. Notable contributions include £10,000 from Hollywood actor and Wrexham FC co-owner Ryan Reynolds and £110,000 from Scottish author Leigh Rivers. Additionally, an anonymous donor generously gifted Jasmin £15,000.

Expressing gratitude for the overwhelming support, Jasmin acknowledged the public’s incredible assistance in reaching the £1.4 million milestone. Initially daunting, the task of raising such a substantial sum has now neared completion, leaving Jasmin amazed at the community’s united efforts to save her son’s life.

The upcoming surgery for Ollie involves a two-step heart repair process, with the first phase scheduled in Stanford and the second phase to be managed by the NHS.

Jasmin emphasized the importance of reaching the full funding target before proceeding with the surgery, urging for one final push of support to close this chapter and secure Ollie’s treatment.

For those willing to contribute to Baby Ollie’s life-saving surgery fundraiser, donations can be made on GoFundMe.
