Horrifying video footage captured the moment a truck skidded on a wet road, crashing into a car and trapping the two occupants inside.
The accident occurred on a section of the DN2/E85 road between the Cristești and Drăgușeni communes in Iași County, northeastern Romania, on Friday afternoon. The car’s driver, aged 42, and the passenger, aged 39, tragically lost their lives in the crash. The lorry’s trailer slid, swung across the road, and blocked both lanes, leading to the devastating collision. Emergency services, including 13 firefighters, two specialized extraction vehicles, a SMURD ambulance, and teams from the Suceava and Iași County Ambulance Services, responded to the scene.
According to reports from Digi24, a Romanian TV channel, a total of four individuals were involved in the incident. The 54-year-old truck driver underwent a breathalyzer test, which showed no alcohol in his system. Despite being evaluated by medical personnel, he declined to be transported to the hospital.
The Iași County Police Inspectorate issued a statement stating that the accident occurred when the lorry driver, a 54-year-old man from Bistrița-Năsăud County, lost control of his vehicle while traveling from Drăgușeni to Cristești. The truck overturned on the road and collided with the car driven by a 42-year-old man from Suceava County.
Authorities have initiated a criminal investigation for manslaughter, and further inquiries are ongoing to ascertain the complete causes and details of the tragic collision.
