The family of a young girl who was brutally raped and murdered by a 27-year-old woman claims that her father succumbed to grief following the tragic incident.
Shortly after being reported missing in October 2022, the lifeless body of 12-year-old Lola Daviet was discovered mutilated and confined in a plastic container outside the apartment building in Paris where she resided with her family.
Algerian-born Dahbia Benkired was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum of 30 years after being convicted of the rape, torture, and murder of Lola. She made history as the first woman in France to receive a whole-life sentence.
The court learned that Benkired allegedly carried out the brutal assault in retaliation for Lola’s mother denying her access to the apartment complex.
A significant controversy arose in France following Benkired’s arrest in 2022 due to her illegal overstay on a student visa. Lola’s parents denounced the exploitation of their child’s name for political purposes.
Tragically, Lola’s father, Johan Daviet, passed away at the age of 49 due to overwhelming grief stemming from his daughter’s tragic death. Lola’s mother revealed in court how his emotional turmoil led him back to alcohol consumption.
Before his death, Johan Daviet left a heartfelt note on Benkired’s door expressing his bewilderment at the cruelty inflicted on his beloved daughter and his longing to reunite with her.
During the trial, Lola’s brother, Thibault Daviet, spoke on behalf of the family, emphasizing the importance of truth and justice for his late father and the entire family affected by the tragedy.
Footage presented in court depicted Benkired handling a suitcase containing Lola’s body at a crowded Paris bar shortly after the heinous crime. The victim’s feet bore mysterious markings of the numbers ‘1’ and ‘0,’ with medical evidence confirming 38 wounds on her body before succumbing to asphyxiation.
As graphic images of Lola’s injuries were displayed in court, family members left in distress. Lola suffered severe injuries to her genitals, face, back, and head, as revealed during the trial.
On the day of the murder, witnesses observed Lola entering the apartment building and engaging with Benkired before being taken inside. Benkired allegedly transported Lola’s body in a plastic box around Paris before disposing of it on the street.
At the commencement of the trial, Benkired sought forgiveness and expressed remorse for her actions. She received a life sentence without the possibility of parole.
This tragic case serves as a harrowing reminder of the devastating impact of senseless violence on families and communities.
