Irish firefighter, Terence Crosbie, has been convicted of sexual assault at Suffolk Superior Court in Boston following an incident during St. Patrick’s Day festivities in March 2024. The verdict came after over 15 hours of jury deliberation, and Crosbie is set to receive his sentencing on October 30.
Upon hearing the verdict, Crosbie’s family and friends seated in the front row of the courtroom were visibly distraught, shedding tears and covering their faces in dismay. The trial, which lasted five days at Suffolk Superior Court, was emotionally charged, as reported by the Irish Star.
Crosbie was apprehended from an Aer Lingus flight shortly after being questioned by Boston Police Department detectives. It was revealed in court that Crosbie had initially booked a flight to Dublin for 10:10 pm on March 16, 2024, but later opted for an unlisted 6:30 pm departure. The court viewed body camera footage showing Crosbie being escorted off the Aer Lingus plane.
During his visit to Boston for the St. Patrick’s Day parade with fellow Dublin firefighters, Crosbie’s accuser recounted meeting his hotel roommate, Liam O’Brien, at a local pub. Events led to them returning to the Omni Parker House hotel, where the alleged assault took place.
The victim testified that after engaging in consensual activities with O’Brien, she awoke to find another man with an Irish accent assaulting her. Distressed, she messaged a friend about the incident before seeking medical assistance at Massachusetts General Hospital, where she reported the assault.
Despite vehemently denying the allegations, Crosbie asserted in court that he had minimal interaction with the complainant and left the room upon O’Brien’s return with the woman. Surveillance footage from various locations on the night in question was presented as evidence during the trial.
Contrary to the victim’s claims, DNA experts testified that no identifiable traces of Crosbie’s DNA were found on the victim. The jury, comprising six men and six women, ultimately found Crosbie guilty of the assault. His sentencing is scheduled for October 30.
