Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri faced an unfortunate outcome in Formula One as they were disqualified from the Las Vegas Grand Prix. Initially, Norris finished behind Max Verstappen, while Piastri secured fourth place. However, both drivers were penalized due to a technical infringement. The post-race inspections revealed that the planks under their McLaren cars were below the required 9mm thickness, indicating an illegally low ride height. Consequently, they were disqualified from the 22nd race of the 2025 season, allowing Verstappen to tie in points with Piastri.
This disqualification marked the first in Norris and Piastri’s F1 careers, joining a small group of drivers who have faced similar penalties. Notably, Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc also experienced disqualifications earlier in the year. Hamilton’s car was found to have skid block issues, leading to his P6 finish being nullified, while Leclerc and Pierre Gasly were disqualified for being under the minimum weight requirement.
In other F1 news, Nico Hulkenberg faced his first disqualification after 15 years in F1 at the Bahrain Grand Prix due to excessive skid block wear. Additionally, George Russell was disqualified from the Belgian Grand Prix for being underweight, promoting Hamilton to the race winner. Esteban Ocon, now racing for Alpine, also had a past disqualification for exceeding the fuel mass flow limit.
