Recent statistics revealed a 5% decline in knife-related crimes and an 18% decrease in knife homicides compared to the previous year. Jones acknowledged the positive trend but emphasized the ongoing efforts to combat knife crime effectively.
Jones attributed the reduction in knife crime to targeted policing in high-risk areas, increased police presence, and stricter regulations on knife sales. She stressed the importance of collaborative efforts across government departments to prevent youth involvement in violence, particularly after cuts to youth services under previous administrations.
Contrary to Mr. Farage’s proposals to allocate £17 billion towards crime reduction, which includes controversial measures like ‘Nightingale’ prisons and mass deportations, Jones emphasized the need for comprehensive and coordinated strategies to address the root causes of violence and ensure community safety.
