Travelling can often be costly, particularly when factoring in the expenses of international flights. However, a major airline has introduced a new program that offers British and European travelers the opportunity to receive complimentary flights, although there are certain conditions to consider when making a booking.
In an effort to combat overtourism in popular destinations, All Nippon Airways (ANA), Japan’s largest airline, has collaborated with the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) to provide free domestic flights during the winter season. This promotion allows passengers to avail themselves of two free internal flights upon booking an inbound international flight.
The aim is to inspire travelers to discover lesser-known regions of Japan, showcasing its diverse landscapes and stunning coastlines, instead of frequenting the crowded tourist hubs like Tokyo and Kyoto. This initiative presents an ideal chance to immerse oneself in the local culture and explore a different side of Japan away from the usual tourist crowds.
With over 40 destinations within Japan covered by the offer, travelers can choose from several breathtaking locations, including Fukuoka, Hokkaido, and Nagasaki. Additionally, they can venture to the Okinawa Islands, often referred to as the ‘Maldives of Japan’ due to their pristine sandy beaches and crystal-clear waters.
To qualify for the complimentary domestic flights, travelers must be arriving from the UK or Europe and must arrange their own international flight to Japan with ANA. The promotion period is scheduled from November 24 to January 31, 2026, although flights can be taken outside of these dates.
Under this scheme, passengers will be provided standard class flights only and might be required to cover taxes and visa fees depending on their chosen destination. The flexibility of not having to start and end domestic flights at the same airport allows for a more extensive exploration of the country.
ANA anticipates that this time-limited offer will facilitate easier and more affordable regional exploration while fostering deeper and sustainable engagement with Japan’s culturally rich regions. For more information and flight bookings, interested individuals can visit the ANA website, which also offers itinerary suggestions, including a stay in Tokyo before exploring the hidden gems.
