Vladimir Putin allegedly supports Nigel Farage and his right-wing populist associates to foster division in Europe, according to David Lammy.
The criticism from Lammy towards Reform UK and its former leader in Wales, Nathan Gill, who was recently convicted of receiving funds from the Kremlin, comes after Farage faced scrutiny for his shifting views on the Russian President.
Addressing a gathering of European socialists in Amsterdam, Lammy referenced Gill’s conviction and highlighted the Kremlin’s history of backing groups that seek to undermine European unity.
Lammy raised concerns about the global network of right-wing populist figures, drawing connections between Farage, Martin Sellner, Tommy Robinson, Steve Bannon, Marine Le Pen, and others, emphasizing their collaborative efforts.
Amidst societal challenges and a search for change, Lammy asserted that the populist right’s tactics would not prevail in elections across Europe, emphasizing the need to resist their influence.
Farage, seeking to dispel accusations of being soft on Russia, expressed support for measures like intercepting Russian jets in NATO airspace and utilizing frozen Russian assets to aid Ukraine, in an effort to enhance his stance on national security.
