Beaverbrooks, a popular high street jewelry chain, has announced the closure of all 83 of its stores on Boxing Day. In a show of appreciation for their hard work throughout the year, the company will provide its staff with an extra week of pay during this festive season. This practice has become a cherished tradition at Beaverbrooks, reflecting the company’s commitment to its employees.
Founded in 1919 by the Adlestone brothers Isaac, Harry, and Maurice, Beaverbrooks opened its first store in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Anna Blackburn, the Managing Director of Beaverbrooks, emphasized the importance of family values within the business. She expressed the company’s desire to allow their dedicated colleagues time to unwind and reconnect with loved ones after the busy holiday period.
Blackburn highlighted the company’s focus on prioritizing its employees in all decision-making processes to cultivate a more engaged workforce, ultimately enhancing customer service levels. Beaverbrooks also welcomed seasonal recruits to assist their teams during the bustling holiday season, ensuring exceptional service for customers.
Following suit, Home Bargains confirmed its closure for three days over the Christmas period, including Boxing Day and New Year’s Day, to provide its diligent staff with a well-deserved break. Similarly, M&S and Aldi have chosen to close their stores on Boxing Day, with M&S expressing gratitude to its staff for their hard work, especially during the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic.
These closures align with the companies’ efforts to prioritize employee well-being and family time during the festive season. Aldi will also keep its stores closed on New Year’s Day, reopening on December 27, while M&S opted to extend the closure to Boxing Day in acknowledgment of their employees’ dedication. Opening hours may vary in the days leading up to Christmas, ensuring both staff and customers can enjoy the holiday season.
