Must read

Embarking on a holiday adventure with the sole mode of transport being your own two feet can be a truly relaxing way to explore a new destination. By eliminating the hassle of car rentals or navigating public transportation systems, travelers can seamlessly wander between key attractions in their chosen retreat.

Skyscanner’s travel experts have recently revealed the top 10 most walkable cities for 2025 worldwide, with a noteworthy six of them nestled in various European locales. The rankings were determined based on distances between landmarks and other factors like pedestrian-friendly pathways, showcasing hidden gems in countries such as Italy and Spain.

At the pinnacle of the list as the world’s most pedestrian-friendly city sits the enchanting ancient city located in Andalusia, Spain, as reported by The Express.

Described by Skyscanner as “a delightful city to explore on foot,” Cordoba boasts the shortest walking distances among the top 10 destinations.

This captivating destination, once a prominent Roman colony, evolved into a significant Islamic hub during medieval times.

The renowned mosque, La Mezquita, is a major draw for tourists from across the globe.

The historic Old Town, designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site, offers a perfect setting for leisurely strolls along its narrow, winding streets. Notable landmarks such as Palacio de Viana, La Juderia, and Alcazar de los Reyes Cristianos add to the city’s charm.

A comprehensive tour of the main attractions can be completed in just 26 minutes (equivalent to 2730 steps), with 29 walking routes available for exploration within the city and its surroundings.

One TripAdvisor user shared, “Cordoba’s layout predates the automobile era, so taxis may not reach every spot. However, once you arrive, everything is within walking distance. Starting from the Roman Bridge, visitors can enjoy various sites like Torre de la Calahorra, the Mosque-Cathedral, and the quaint streets filled with bars, restaurants, shops, and museums, including the historic Jewish Quarter.”

Another reviewer mentioned, “Exploring the charming cobbled streets reveals an array of cafes, bars, shops, and eateries. Venture into the narrow alleys to discover hidden gems. It’s a delightful experience, but be sure to wear comfortable shoes due to the cobblestone paths that can be taxing on your feet.”

A third visitor expressed, “The dining options are reasonably priced, offering a pleasant contrast to higher costs in other cities. Cordoba stands out for its beauty, rich history, well-designed city layout with extensive parks for walking, and the warmth of its people. It left a lasting impression on us.”

This picturesque Spanish city claimed the top position among pedestrian-friendly cities, closely followed by Nagasaki in Japan.

Nagasaki, known for its low crime rates among the top 10 cities, boasts 531 tourist attractions and sits at a modest average elevation of 89 meters.

Italy and Monaco also received praise for their compact city centers and diverse array of attractions, making them strong contenders in the realm of pedestrian-friendly cities for the year 2025.
