Laura Hamilton reflects on her 13-year tenure as the host of A Place in the Sun and shares her top three favorite destinations from the show. Having traveled extensively for over a decade on the Channel 4 property-hunting program, Laura has accumulated a significant amount of air miles.
Despite the vast array of locations visited during her globetrotting adventures, Laura has managed to narrow down her favorite spots to three choices. In a recent discussion about the enduring popularity of the show, Laura was asked to reveal her most beloved destinations.
One of her top picks holds sentimental value as it relates to her family. “I loved filming in South Africa,” Laura shared. “My dad was born there, so it was a special experience for me.” South Africa, situated at the southern tip of the African continent, is known for its thriving economy and diverse culture, with 12 official languages spoken, including Afrikaans, isiZulu, isiXhosa, and IsiNdebele. The country is also renowned for its abundant wildlife, ranging from lions and elephants to vervet monkeys and baboons. Along the coast, visitors can even catch glimpses of great white sharks and dolphins.
Laura’s second favorite destination is the picturesque village of Morzine in the French mountains. “I also enjoyed filming in Morzine, a wonderful ski destination, especially during the summer months,” she revealed. Nestled in the Chablais mountain range between Mont Blanc and Lake Geneva, Morzine has a rich history dating back over a millennium. Once home to monks and miners, the village later prospered from slate mining operations in the 1800s.
Her final choice is the breathtaking city of Granada in Spain, specifically the Sierra Nevada mountain range. “Granada, Sierra Nevada, was incredible. The ability to go from the beach in the morning to the slopes in the afternoon was truly amazing. I had the opportunity to explore places I might not have otherwise visited.” Sierra Nevada, located in the Andalusian province of Granada, boasts Europe’s most southerly ski resort and offers stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea.
In a recent interview, Laura also addressed the challenges of dealing with eccentric buyers on the show and dispelled notions that participants join for a free vacation. She emphasized the significant commitment and decision-making involved in appearing on the program, noting instances where she found buyers’ choices puzzling.
