A woman has confessed to the killing of 10 dogs by using a poison she was experimenting with, following accusations of murdering an elderly man with a toxic bean stew.
Police chief Halisson Ideiao labeled Ana Paula Veloso as a “psychopath” and “serial killer” for allegedly causing the death of Neil Correa da Silva in Baixada Fluminense, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, through a poisoned bean stew. Authorities suspect Veloso collaborated with the victim’s daughter, Michele Paiva da Silva, who reportedly brought her from Guarulhos to Rio to assist in the crime.
Both Veloso and Paiva da Silva are now in police custody, connected to three additional murders. Halisson stated, “She admits to killing 10 dogs using the poison to test the method and timing. She was well aware of the dosage and effects on those who consumed it.” Subsequently, terbufos, a pesticide slightly less potent than lead, was discovered at Veloso’s residence.
The investigation also led Sao Paulo police to question Veloso’s twin sister, Roberta, with Halisson mentioning, “She actively participated in Neil’s death by providing support.” Michele, the victim’s daughter, a 42-year-old law student, was apprehended outside Engenho Novo University in Rio. Neil passed away at Adao Pereira Nunes Municipal Hospital, prompting his exhumation for forensic analysis to ascertain if he was poisoned.
Authorities have alleged a strained relationship between the father and daughter. Ana and Michele, described as friends, were present at Neil’s residence when he fell ill and was rushed to the hospital. Text exchanges between them revealed discussions about poisoning Mr. Correa da Silva.
Additionally, police are connecting the pensioner’s demise to three other suspected poisonings in Guarulhos, believed to be orchestrated by Veloso and Paiva da Silva. Halisson claimed, “Ana Paula poisoned four individuals, including Neil, at Michele’s behest.”
Halisson mentioned that Veloso drew police attention by alleging an attempted cake poisoning, which investigators believe was an attempt to frame another person. He stated, “Ana Paula Veloso claimed a cake poisoning incident, but our investigation revealed she was not the victim but a serial killer.”
