F1 Legend Schumacher Communicates Through Eye Movements

Must read

Formula One icon Michael Schumacher, known for his legendary career, is currently communicating primarily through eye movements, nearly 12 years after a tragic skiing accident altered his life. Following a severe brain injury sustained in the French Alps in December 2013, Schumacher has remained out of the public eye, with his wife Corinna taking charge of his care.

Initially, there were hopes among fans for a full recovery for the seven-time F1 champion. However, the reality that Schumacher may never return to public life has gradually been accepted by many.

Despite limited interactions and fewer visitors to the Schumacher residence post-accident, bits of information regarding the former racer’s condition have surfaced over time.

Reports from Elisabetta Gregoraci, the ex-wife of former Benetton team principal Flavio Briatore, revealed in 2020 that Schumacher now communicates solely through eye contact. She mentioned that only a select few are permitted to visit him, with his wife establishing a medical facility within their home in Spain.

Corinna, who tied the knot with Schumacher in 1995, has been diligently overseeing his treatment since the tragic incident. This responsibility has led to strict limitations on the number of individuals allowed to see the racing legend.

In a rare public appearance in September 2024 at his daughter Gina-Maria’s wedding, Schumacher reportedly attended the ceremony at the family estate in Mallorca. Guests were reportedly asked to surrender their mobile phones to prevent unauthorized photos of Schumacher from being taken, and no leaked images surfaced subsequently.

While most of Schumacher’s care has occurred at their Lake Geneva property in Switzerland, the family’s residence in Mallorca, acquired in 2017, has also been a significant location for his recovery journey.

Corinna finalized the acquisition of the luxurious property, previously owned by Real Madrid president Florentino Perez, for £27 million. Although there were speculations about a permanent relocation, such reports were later dismissed.

Despite his absence from the public sphere, Schumacher remains dearly cherished by F1 enthusiasts and close companions. Jean Todt, Schumacher’s former Ferrari team principal, expressed fondly about their relationship but sadly updated on the German’s condition in 2023, acknowledging that Schumacher is now different from the esteemed figure he once was, with his family providing unwavering support and protection.
