An unconventional museum showcasing an array of penises has been voted as Europe’s most unique museum by delighted Brits. The Phallological Museum in Reykjavik, Iceland, housing over 300 penises and penile fragments, secured the top position in a survey conducted by easyJet.

With a significant 25% of the public vote, the Icelandic museum outshone the Sewer Museum in Paris, which claimed the second spot with 19%. Other notable mentions in the top 20 list included the Museum of Broken Relationships in Zagreb, Croatia, and the Torture Museum in Amsterdam.

Additionally, Froggyland in Split, displaying 507 stuffed frogs, the Museum of Miniatures in Prague, and the Surgeon’s Hall Museum in Edinburgh also received high rankings in the survey.

The survey, based on responses from 2,000 Brits, reflects a growing trend of curiosity-driven travel, with 88% expressing interest in unconventional cultural experiences during city breaks. Furthermore, 79% of Brits have intentionally planned trips to visit unique cultural attractions like quirky museums and art galleries.

A substantial 81% of respondents confirmed that visiting one of the museums featured in easyJet’s list is on their travel bucket list. When it comes to preferences, 22% of holidaymakers prefer exploring lesser-known sites on city breaks, while 84% are willing to pay more for distinctive cultural encounters.

Interestingly, 32% of Brits find visiting unusual museums more enjoyable than visiting traditional landmarks. Among the Gen Z demographic, 80% indicated that they would be more inclined to visit a quirky museum if they had seen it on social media platforms like Instagram or TikTok.

Kevin Doyle, UK Country Manager at easyJet, noted that autumn presents an ideal opportunity for cultural city breaks. He emphasized the desire for new and unique travel experiences, hoping that the diverse range of curiosities highlighted in the survey would inspire travelers to find their ideal getaway.

Moreover, easyJet’s extensive short-haul network, offering over 550 routes across 30 countries from 22 UK airports, including new winter routes like Vienna from London Gatwick, Grenoble from Birmingham, and Rovaniemi from Belfast, aims to provide customers with enhanced connectivity and value for exploring Europe this autumn.

Affordable easyJet flights from the UK to European cities hosting quirky museums are still available for booking, starting at just £17.99. As the largest UK airline with a wide-reaching network, easyJet facilitates access to a plethora of curious cultural experiences across Europe and beyond.
