“Barcelona Weekend Guide: Local Tips and Luxury Stay”

Must read

Barcelona is a top choice for a city break, offering sun, sea, history, culture, and modern city amenities just a short flight away from the UK. To make the most of a weekend in this Catalonian city, we sought advice from locals and frequent visitors for their top suggestions.

During our stay, we experienced the charm of the recently refurbished Grand Hotel Central, a historic five-star hotel established in 1926. Situated conveniently between the Gothic Quarter and the Born area, the hotel boasts a rich artistic and literary legacy. The elegant foyer, adorned with artwork, leads to a classic wood-panelled library on the eighth floor, providing a glimpse into the past.

The hotel’s rooms blend modern amenities with character, complete with nightly locally made chocolates and a guide to popular local spots. A highlight is the rooftop pool and terrace, ideal for relaxation with outstanding city views and delectable cuisine, such as the renowned patatas bravas.

At the hotel’s restaurant, Can Bo, guests can savor a fusion of Spanish and Italian flavors, with exceptional service and wine pairings. Barcelona, a culinary hotspot, offers a range of dining options from traditional tapas to global cuisine, satisfying every palate.

Exploring the city, we indulged in morning pastries at La Colmena patisserie and sampled pinchos along Blai street. For dinner, Bastaix impressed with elevated tapas and a vibrant ambiance. We also enjoyed wine at La Vinya del Senyor and unique cocktails at Mariposa Negra.

No Barcelona visit is complete without admiring the iconic Sagrada Familia, a masterpiece by Gaudi. Additionally, we recommend exploring the Picasso Museum, Museu Frederic Marès, and the enchanting Barcelona Cathedral at night.

Barcelona’s attractions are spread out, necessitating plenty of walking or convenient metro rides. Rooms at Grand Hotel Central start at €350 per night, including breakfast for two. Flights from Manchester to Barcelona with Vueling start from €62.

For various accommodation options, consider booking through platforms like Booking.com and Expedia.
