Labour Party Conference: Keynote Address Interrupted by Pro-Palestine Protester

Must read

Rachel Reeves had to momentarily halt her keynote address at the Labour Party conference due to a disruption caused by a pro-Palestine protester. The Chancellor paused her speech when the protester shouted from the audience, expressing grievances about the treatment of Palestinians. Ms. Reeves acknowledged the protester’s concerns by stating, “We support your cause and acknowledge the need to recognize a Palestinian state.” She emphasized the party’s shift from being a party of protest to a party in Government.

Outside the conference center in Liverpool, large groups of demonstrators called for an end to arms sales to Israel. The protester, identified as “Sam P,” affiliated with Palestine Youth Movement and London for a Free Palestine, stood with a Palestinian flag questioning the UK’s arms support for Israel. The activist highlighted the urgency to address the ongoing atrocities and emphasized the need for action to stop the violence.

Security escorted the protester out of the hall, and Merseyside Police later took over. This incident occurred following Keir Starmer’s announcement that the UK would recognize a Palestinian state after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu failed to meet certain demands. Starmer condemned the relentless military actions in Gaza and the dire humanitarian situation, stating that the death and destruction must come to an end.

Ms. Reeves reiterated the party’s commitment to recognizing a Palestinian state and highlighted the tangible changes the party has implemented while in power. Her remarks were met with applause from the audience at the conference hall, showcasing support for the party’s stance.
