“British Museum Innovates with Queue-Free Entry System”

Must read

The British Museum is set to implement a new entry system that ditches traditional queues in favor of a more open and free-flowing approach. Starting from September 17th to September 23rd, visitors entering from Great Russell Street will experience a free-for-all entry process instead of waiting in line.

According to the museum’s spokesperson, visitors will have the freedom to move around the area near the lawns. However, members with BM membership will still have access to a fast-track lane through the security tent.

The initiative is part of the museum’s efforts to enhance the visitor experience and is in preparation for the upcoming opening of the Visitor Welcome Pavilions in Spring 2026. This move is a key component of the museum’s long-term Masterplan aimed at transforming it into the most inclusive and accessible museum globally.

The current trial also marks a step towards replacing the temporary security sheds with permanent pavilions designed by Studio Weave. The architectural firm was selected following a competition held by the British Museum. Museum director Nicholas Cullinan expressed excitement about the project, highlighting the balance between preserving the museum’s historic charm and providing a modern visitor experience.
