The Co-operative Bank plans to reduce operating hours in 40 branches starting next year. Some branches will have their hours cut by up to three hours weekly, with 18 branches closing one day each week. For instance, the Brighton branch will now open from 9.30am to 2.30pm instead of 9am to 5pm. Similarly, the Caerphilly branch will operate from 10am to 2pm and will be closed on Wednesdays, compared to its previous hours of 9am to 4pm.
The Co-operative Bank, serving 2.5 million customers, announced the changes on its website attributing them to a decline in branch visits. The bank stated that with fewer customers opting for branch visits, more are utilizing mobile, online, or telephone banking. Despite reduced hours, branch staff will continue to support customers through other channels. Alternative branch options will be available if a customer’s branch is closed on a weekday.
