“Stratford-on-Avon Residents Eligible for £500 Energy Cost Aid”

Must read

Households facing challenges with their energy expenses are encouraged to verify if they qualify for cost of living assistance worth up to £500. Act on Energy, an energy advice charity, is offering this support to residents in Stratford-on-Avon who require help with heating system repairs, replacements, or enhancements.

To be eligible for this aid, households must have a gross income below £31,000 and have a vulnerable individual residing with them. Vulnerable individuals can include those with unmanageable debt, long-term health conditions, disabilities, recipients of benefits-related free school meals, pregnant individuals, or children under five years old.

Act on Energy may consider other vulnerabilities as well. If uncertain about eligibility, individuals should contact Act on Energy to inquire about their qualification for support. For energy payments, households must not exceed certain savings thresholds. Families with children under 18 may receive up to £500, while single individuals and couples could receive £300. The financial aid is disbursed directly to the energy supplier or as a voucher for prepayment customers.

For those seeking “Physical Intervention” assistance, the aggregate savings limit is £6,000 per adult receiving state pension. Applications can be submitted online on the Act on Energy website or by calling 0800 988 2881. This initiative coincides with upcoming increases in energy bills this winter, with the price cap set to rise by 2% in October. Ofgem predicts an average annual energy bill increase for dual fuel households paying by direct debit from £1,720 to £1,755.

Moreover, the price cap for prepayment meter users will increase from £1,672 to £1,707 annually, while those paying upon bill receipt will see their yearly charges go up from £1,855 to £1,890. It’s important to note that there is no absolute cap on energy costs; the price cap regulates unit rates of gas and electricity as well as standing charges, which are daily connection fees.

Regardless of energy consumption, standing charges are incurred. The price cap adjustments occur quarterly, in January, April, July, and October. Residents are reminded to review their energy usage and consider seeking assistance if needed to navigate the rising costs effectively.
