“Riviera Travel Introduces World’s First Solo River Cruise Ship”

Must read

Solo travelers looking to book cruise vacations often encounter single supplements since most cruise ships are designed for two guests. In a groundbreaking move, Riviera Travel is introducing the world’s first river cruise ship tailored exclusively for solo travelers. The MS George Eliot, scheduled to embark on European journeys along the Rhine and Danube in 2027, offers eight-day itineraries starting at £2,449 per person, along with two new 15-day routes.

This innovation follows a significant 66% annual surge in solo river cruise reservations at Riviera Travel. Solo travelers now constitute nearly 13% of all bookings, with half being repeat customers. Research from the company reveals that 64% of solo travelers prefer dedicated solo trips, relishing the independence of exploring alone while potentially connecting with like-minded fellow adventurers.

To mark the ship’s launch, Riviera Travel is providing a complimentary upgrade from middle to upper deck on 2027 European river cruises (excluding long-haul trips). Bookings must be made by October 31, 2025, using the code ‘Upgrade 27’. For more details, visit rivieratravel.co.uk.

Riviera Alba, another debut vessel from the brand, will sail in 2027, venturing beyond Europe to navigate the Mekong River in Southeast Asia. Meanwhile, major cruise lines like Disney Cruise Line, Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Norwegian Cruise Line, and MSC Cruises have disclosed plans for new ships in 2027, promising exciting onboard experiences, with details to be announced in due course.

Exciting news for eager cruisers as Royal Caribbean, MSC Cruises, and TUI Cruises prepare to introduce new ships in 2026. Royal Caribbean achieved a significant milestone with its upcoming mega ship, Legend of the Seas, being floated out ahead of its summer 2026 inaugural season. The vessel, the third in the Icon Class ships, will offer European itineraries from Barcelona and Rome, accommodating up to 5,628 passengers and boasting top-notch amenities like the largest waterpark at sea, a 40ft-long FlowRider surf simulator, captivating theater shows, and diverse dining options.

For those keen on cruising updates, Royal Caribbean’s newsletter, Anchors Away, offers a weekly dose of cruise news, ship insights, and travel advice.
