“Poundland Saves 11 Stores from Closure, Revamps Customer Experience”

Must read

Poundland has updated its plans regarding store closures, revealing that 11 locations previously earmarked for closure have been saved from shutting down. This decision comes after the budget chain had initially stated it would close 68 stores following its acquisition by investment firm Gordon Brothers for a nominal fee. Among the reprieved stores is Poundland’s Irvine Rivergate Centre branch, which had been scheduled to permanently close on September 14. Additionally, closures slated for October in Brighton (London Road) and Anniesland (Great Western Road) have also been postponed.

A closure in Whitby that was on the horizon has been averted as Poundland successfully negotiated with the landlord overseeing the property. Despite these changes, Poundland maintains its projection that its store count will eventually decrease to approximately 650 to 700 stores as leases expire, down from the initial 800 branches at the onset of the restructuring. Six stores are still set to close on September 28 in various locations, including Glasgow, Havant, Shropshire, Derbyshire, Swanley, and Uttoxeter, as part of the original closure list.

Poundland’s Managing Director, Barry Williams, expressed determination in delivering a more streamlined and customer-focused experience, emphasizing the brand’s commitment to providing exceptional value. The company recently introduced a simplified pricing structure of £1, £2, and £3 in its UK stores, with the majority of grocery items priced at £1. Poundland has also revamped its website to offer product browsing only, discontinuing online purchasing. The loyalty app, Poundland Perks, is also being phased out, allowing shoppers to redeem any existing vouchers until January 15, 2026.

The changes at Poundland aim to enhance the shopping experience and reinforce the brand’s value proposition to customers.
