Man Utd’s four-man transfer wishlist to solve Ruben Amorim’s biggest problem area

Must read

Manchester United have made enquiries for two other left wing-backs after opening talks with Lecce over a deal for Patrick Dorgu.

The Red Devils are limited in terms of what they can do in the January transfer window due to the Premier League‘s Profit and Sustainability Rules, but work to strengthen Ruben Amorim’s squad is ongoing.

Amorim has been forced to deploy Diogo Dalot as a left wing-back with Luke Shaw injured. And with that in mind, strengthening in that position has emerged as a priority for United this month.

It emerged on Monday that United had approached Lecce for talks over Dorgu – but two other defenders from the Premier League are also on the club’s radar.

As revealed by ESPN, Crystal Palace defender Tyrick Mitchell and Wolves‘ Rayan Ait-Nouri have both been the subject of enquiries as United consider all their options.

Interest in Nuno Mendes of Paris Saint-Germain has also been well documented, although the report outlines that the Portugal international is not seen as a viable target in the January window.

Both Ait-Nouri and Mitchell have impressed in the Premier League for their respective sides this season. United, on the other hand, have had to make do with Dalot filling in with Shaw injured and Tyrell Malacia, the club’s other senior left-back, linked with a loan move away from Old Trafford.

The Athletic revealed that talks had taken place with Dorgu on Monday, although Lecce sporting director, Pantaleo Corvino, was adamant that the Serie A outfit would not sell the 20-year-old midway through the season during an interview last month.

He told Gazzetta dello Sport: “Dorgu is a potential champion. Correction: he is a champion. On the left or right wing, he runs like three players and can find the goal. He has an engine that no one else has.

“A player like him has admirers, of course, and there are plenty of them, even abroad. But Dorgu will stay here, and then we’ll talk about it in the summer, because his destiny is already set – his future belongs to him.”

Talks are also ongoing over a number of potential player exits including loan moves for Marcus Rashford and Antony, with the latter close to joining Real Betis.
