Silent Witness cast: Who stars in the season 28 episode 5 and 6 story Broken?

Silent Witness season 28 has made a triumphant return to BBC One, continuing its tradition of presenting gripping narratives split into two parts. The third instalment of the season, titled ‘Broken’, airs its first part on January 20, with the second part set to air on January 21.

The discovery of a woman’s hand in a canal sets the Lyell team on a quest to locate the rest of her body. Concurrently, Nikki Alexander (portrayed by Emilia Fox) finds herself delving into the world of criminal justice.

In another storyline, the wife of a barrister who vanished two years ago while being tormented by a client receives another body part in the mail. The regular cast members will be back, joined by newcomers Maggie Steed as Harriet and Francesca Mills as Kit.

Here’s a rundown of the guest cast for this episode and where you might have seen them before.

Kerrie Hayes, a 38 year old actress hailing from Liverpool, is one of five siblings. She made her television debut in the BBC drama Lilies, playing Ruby Moss.

Audiences may also recognise her from Holby City, Inspector George Gently, and Brighton Rock.

David Angland, a graduate of the RADA Youth Company in 2014, has appeared in The Devil’s Hour, Pistol, and Everything Now.

Abdul Sulaiman, an actor from South London, recently made a guest appearance in The Crown season five. His other credits include Supacell, The A-List, and Witness Number 3.

Tamzin Outhwaite, a 54 year old English actress and presenter, is best known for her role as Mel Owen in EastEnders. She was previously married to actor Tom Ellis and they share two daughters.

Interestingly, she is also related to Holly Willoughby’s husband, Dan Baldwin, as his cousin.

Judge Gibbs is portrayed by London-born actress Nicky Goldie, who has appeared in numerous guest roles in Call the Midwife, as well as other shows like Grace, Ruby Speaking and The Pale Horse.

Dev Shah KC is played by Raj Ghatak, a 51 year old British actor recognised for his role as Sweetie in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Bollywood musical Bombay Dreams. He also featured as Grayson in the Channel 4 drama Dead Set.

Gavin Rose is brought to life by Phil Deguara, who has previously starred in The Death of Stalin, Undercover and Beowulf: Return to the Shieldlands.

Kenneth Rose is played by Surrey-born actor Kim Durham, who initially trained as a teacher before developing an interest in fringe theatre. He lent his voice to a character in the new Wicked film and is perhaps most famous for playing Matt Crawford in The Archers.

DS Blake is portrayed by Gloria Obianyo, a multi-talented actress, singer and musician who has starred in Outlander, Good Omens and Paradise.

David Whitley is played by Cal MacAninch, a 61 year old Scottish actor renowned for his role as John Keenan in the police drama HolbyBlue. He is married to actress Shauna Macdonald and they have three daughters.
